Preparing for Summer: A Guide to Replacing Your Airconditioning System

Melbourne was recently subjected to a preview of the upcoming summer season. Below is a recap of the recorded temperatures, courtesy of The Herald Sun:

Summer came early for Melbourne today; it was already 19C in the city by 8am and climbed to 22C by 9.45am, hitting 27C by 12.30pm.

The state’s north sizzled with Mildura still sitting at 36C at 5.30pm.

Melbourne’s summer streak will continue in bursts throughout the week, with 23C expected tomorrow, 28C on Friday, 22C on Saturday and 28C on Sunday.

Summer itself isn’t too far off, making now the perfect time to inspect your air conditioning units to see if they are ready to fend off the summer heat. Turn up your cooling system and be on the lookout for the following signs of trouble:

Uneven Temperatures

If you are using a central cooling system, you should expect that temperatures between the rooms in your home to remain consistent. Uneven temperatures throughout your home often signifies a problem with your cooling system. This sign may also point out that the cooling capacity of your current system isn’t proportional to the dimensions of your home.

Indoor Humidity

Apart from standard cooling duties, your air conditioner also regulates the humidity of your home. If you notice that your home is a lot more humid than usual, or you start catching a whiff of musty smells coming from sections of your house, you may have a problem with your cooling system.

Loud Noises

Simply put, the only noise your air conditioning unit or system should be a gentle and oddly relaxing hum. Any loud banging or clanging noises should be a cause for concern as this problem typically means that your current system is nearing the end of its useful service life.

If you have been experiencing the problems mentioned above on a regular basis, it may be time to let your current cooling system retire and replace it with an energy-efficient, yet, air conditioning system. Many HVAC services like Mode Heating and Cooling carry affordable energy-efficient models that cool your home cool while keeping your cooling bills within reason.

Making the switch now, if necessary, is ideal. After all, the last thing you want to happen is to be stuck waiting for a replacement unit in the middle of a 30C day.
